The Faculty of Social Sciences at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and Peking University (PKU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on December 10, 2024, introducing a new part-time HKU-PKU Master of Public Administration programme.
The MoU was signed by Professor Ming Wen, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at HKU, and Professor Jirong Yan, Dean of the PKU School of Government, on HKU's campus. Other attendees included leaders from both universities, such as Professor Robert Thomson, Head of HKU's Department of Politics and Public Administration, and Li Zhaoqing, Director of the High-end Education Training Centre at PKU's School of Government.
In light of China's socio-economic development, the impact of globalisation, and ongoing advancements in academia, senior executives from government bodies, service organisations, and businesses in mainland China increasingly recognise the necessity to enhance their critical thinking skills. This need arises due to the rapidly changing environment that requires effective navigation.
To meet this demand, the part-time HKU-PKU MPA programme was launched. This two-year course will formally commence in September 2025. The partnership between HKU's Faculty of Social Sciences and PKU's School of Government enables students to undertake intensive study in both Hong Kong and Beijing. Furthermore, this collaboration will include initiatives in sustainable development, research, and student exchanges.
